For current Red Cross Instructors who wish to recertify their instructor certification.
The Canadian Red Cross Instructor Recertification Hub is a part of the recertification process for all three Red Cross First Aid Instructor disciplines: First Aid & CPR, Wilderness & Remote First Aid, and Professional Responder, and must be taken before the recertification course in each discipline.
In July 2020, the Canadian Red Cross introduced new discipline-specific Instructor Recertification courses. An evolution to their previous model, the discipline-specific recertification courses align with the Instructor Development Program and respect the difference in skills needed and target audiences for each discipline.
In the previous model, recertifying a Professional Responder or Wilderness & Remote First Aid Instructor certification would recertify all other instructor certifications automatically.
Under this new model, instructors will need to recertify each of their certifications separately (First Aid & CPR Instructor, Wilderness & Remote First Aid Instructor, and Professional Responder Instructor).
Every instructor needs to attend a four hour Instructor Recertification Hub (this course) and the appropriate discipline-specific components. Instructors must have current Canadian Red Cross First Aid Program Instructor certification, and have taught a minimum of 3 Canadian Red Cross First Aid Program courses during their three-year certification period.
Successful completion of the Instructor Recertification Hub also recertifies your Teaching Experience Supervisor and/or Youth Leader certification (if held).
In order to recertify your instructor certification, you must meet the following prerequisites:
Please submit teaching records through MyRC. One course must have been taught in each instructor designation seeking recertification (to the highest level of certification with each program area, re-certification courses qualify). Courses which were taught in combination (example: Standard First Aid and Emergency First Aid) do not count as separate courses for the purpose of re-certification prerequisites.
For more information, please consult the CRC National Program Standards.
The Instructor Recertification course includes:
Red Cross Instructor certification is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. If you have taught a minimum of 3 courses in your discipline, you can recertify within those 3 years, which consists of an 8 hour recertification course.
If you have a valid CPR Instructor certificate and have taught 3 courses you can recertify by signing up for one of our 8 hour instructor recertification courses. These courses can be completed in a ‘virtual classroom’ format meaning you can attend the course from the comfort of your own home.
If you want to teach first aid courses and issue first aid certificates to students, you will need to be certified as an instructor by any agency whose program you want to teach. At Alert First Aid we offer a First Aid Instructor training and certific for the Canadian Red Cross .
