Is an online CPR certification valid?

The brief answer is no. If you require CPR certification, only a portion of the course can be completed online. We provide standalone CPR C courses in a 'blended' format, allowing you to finish the 'knowledge CPR lessons' online. This effectively reduces the classroom time for these CPR courses by half. However, certification cannot be granted unless half of the course duration is spent in the classroom. The classroom setting is crucial for an CPR instructor to lead you through practical skills, ensuring your proficiency and eligibility for CPR certification.

Is CPR Level C the same as BLS?

Answer: No, they are different. CPR C course is designed for 'lay rescuers,' individuals in the community who may need to administer CPR during a life-threatening emergency. On the other hand, Basic Life Support (BLS) is tailored for Professional Responders and Health Care Professionals working in clinical environments outside of a hospital. CPR C focuses on fundamental life-saving principles and CPR techniques for various situations. BLS, however, emphasizes a specific, detailed approach to performing CPR within a two-person BLS team. Additionally, BLS covers more comprehensive assessments and life-saving treatments, often involving specialized equipment.

Is the Standard First Aid Equivalent to an OFA level 1 certification

Yes, the Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid Blended and Standard First Aid in-person courses are considered equivalent to an Occupational First Aid Level 1 (OFA Level 1) first aid course. However, it's important to note that the OFA Level 1 course is specifically designed for first aid attendants. If your goal is to become a designated first aid attendant, you may want to consider taking the OFA Level 1 first aid course for training that is tailored to that role.

What is CPR Level C?

CPR Level C is the most comprehensive level of "lay rescuer" CPR, encompassing basic CPR, AED usage, and a limited set of life-saving techniques for adults, children, and infants. If your role doesn't involve professional response or healthcare in a clinical setting, CPR C certification is likely sufficient for employers requiring CPR certification. Stand-alone CPR C and CPR recertification courses are available at Alert First Aid. Moreover, CPR C course is a fundamental component of many of our first aid courses, including Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, and Marine First Aid. Most individuals obtain their CPR C certification as part of these comprehensive first aid courses. Notably, our Worksafe BC Occupational First Aid courses, tailored for workplace first aid, do not include CPR C, as they are specifically focused on adult first aid. If you're enrolled in one of our OFA Level 1, 2, or 3 first aid courses and require CPR C certification, please contact our office, and arrangements can be made to include it in your course for a reasonable fee.

Why do I need to show my Photo ID at my Standard First Aid course in BC?

The standard first aid is equivalent to an OFA level 1 certification To certify you as a Level 1 first aid attendant, we require age verification and confirmation of your identity. Acceptable identification for BC Workplace First Aid includes: Valid Canadian or U.S. Driver's License. Valid Passport. Valid Student ID Card for the current school year. Employee Picture Identification Card. Native Status Picture Identification Card. BC Photo ID (including digital) issued November 1996 or later. Please ensure you have one of these forms of ID to participate in the certification process.
