Vancouver Basic Life Support with AM and OT

Vancouver Basic Life Support with AM and OT

This Vancouver course combines BLS, AM & O2 to prepare future healthcare providers to work as a team in a professional environment.

This Vancouver course combines the Canadian Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), Airway Management (AM), and Oxygen Therapy (OT) courses to teach pre-hospital or in-facility responders how to recognize and intervene where patients are suffering from cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest. The BLS curriculum is meant to support the delivery of high-performance, team-based professional resuscitation. This course is industry driven, designed as a robust resuscitation training program geared toward high-quality CPR in a team environment, and recognizes the nuances of multidisciplinatory teams with varied experiences.

This program does not cover basic layperson CPR training - it is specifically for professionals to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, children, infants, and neonates. Certification matches industry standards - BLS certification is valid for 1 year, while Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy are valid for 3 years.

We are doing our best to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in British Columbia. Masks are mandatory throughout this course. You can take a look at our full COVID-19 Safety Plan in the Resources section.

FAQs

Is BLS different than CPR?

No. CPR C is geared toward ‘lay rescuers’, or people who work in the community but may need to know CPR in case of a life-threatening emergency. BLS, or ‘Basic Life Support’ is geared toward Professional Responders and Health Care Professionals who work in a clinical environment outside of a hospital. CPR C will focus on basic life saving principles and how to do CPR in a variety of situations. BLS will focus on a very specific, detailed approach to performing CPR as part of a 2 person BLS team. BLS also covers more in-depth assessment and life saving treatments using more specialized equipment.

Certification

Canadian Red Cross certificates are now virtual! You will receive a temporary certificate at the end of your course, and a permanent virtual certificate will be emailed to you after you've successfully completed the course. You will be able to view your manual and certification online at any time through your MyRedCross account. BLS certification is valid for 1 year, and Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy are each valid for 3 years.
